    Hi,

I would like to start a discussion on the teaching of Big History in preschool. Start them on the right track, so to speak.

I am not an educator, but I do have an idea for a potential core concept:  You are a star! All of the elements that make you came from a star. All people and everything came from a star (equality!). Let's look at how that happened.

    What do you think?

    Thank you, Richard  argb@mac.com

I think that is a terrific approach - and it is true!

It is important to explore and study this material at all levels.

And as Walter Alvarez reminds us, it is also true that the stardust was mixed into more complex compounds here on earth.  We are made from the carbon and oxygen made in stars - and the bio-molecules  mostly formed on earth.  We are stardust and we are earthlings.

One of the many things I have learned through IBHA members is how long the Montessori preschool curriculum has included key aspects of Big History.  For example, Michael Duffy has been a Montessori classroom teacher and teacher trainer for almost 25 years. He co-authored the book "Children of the Universe: Cosmic Education in the Montessori Elementary Classroom," an explanation of Maria Montessori's program of Cosmic Education, the elementary equivalent of Big History.  James Dunbar has a wonderful series of books for children (and adults!), called The Universe Verse.  Jennifer Morgan wrote a Universe Story Trilogy -- Born With a Bang, From Lava to Life, Mammals Who Morph -- which is used in classrooms around the world. www.universestories.com.

    Lowell,

Yes, perfect, STARDUST and EARTHMUD. You've instantly got every child's attention. There's a book title. I am unfamiliar with Walter Alvarez.

Thank you for the listing of great resources. I didn't know Montessori had this program. And I ordered Jennifer Morgan's books last night.

    Hi

I am single and I am going on the European Tour after the conference next July.

If you are also going on the tour and you are single, we can share a hotel room and each save about $1500.

I am a "senior citizen" who is healthy, active and fastidious with no major medical issues or annoying habits. Well, I do like to listen at full volume and play along with the Midnight Heavy Metal radio show. But you can get some earplugs or an isolation booth or whatever… kidding, kidding!

Really, we can save some money and enjoy the company. Female welcome!

    Thank you, Richard
